1. Resource Unit: HERU makes available health promotion materials in Arabic and English, and information on a broad range of health education and health promotion topics. These materials can be accessed through the HERU library which is located on the 3rd floor of Van Dyck Building, at FHS. 2. Networking: HERU facilitates networking among active governmental and non-governmental agencies in Lebanon and the region. This is done by maintaining an updated directory of agencies, website interaction, and organizing training workshops. 3. Development and Dissemination of Materials: HERU engages in the production of health promotion materials for use in community health programs by different groups and for different purposes. Examples of recent activities in this respect include a peer education manual addressed to youth on reproductive and sexual health, briefs addressed to organizations working on tobacco, a directory of materials on AIDS in the region for organizations involved in AIDS activities, and patient education brochures and television spots on maternal and child health issues. HERU is also involved in the adaptation of materials to local contexts. 4. Program and Materials Evaluation: HERU has the capacity to be directly involved in evaluating different health promotion programs and materials and also to train others on how to plan and carry out a program evaluation activity. 5. Participatory Training: HERU trains participants on topics in health promotion using an interactive participatory approach. HERU is also involved in the training of trainers on a wide range of topics such as communication skills, peer education, and management and evaluation of youth programs on reproductive health issues. 6. Funds: Although HERU is a part of an academic institution, it greatly relies on the willingness of international organizations to recognize its importance, contribute to its development, and financially support its individual projects. |
